So a tribute to Roxy Music at Mr Kyps, I`d missed their last visit so thought I`d give it a go this time. Maybe not the most obvious act for a tribute but something a bit different.
A very passable "Bryan Ferry" entered the stage with his band clad in white open neck shirt and black suit. This guy really does have Bryans look and seemingly without much makeup.
The first few songs I dodnt recognize apart from Street Life.
So a bit of a slow start but when they got into some of Roxy Musics biggest hits they really got going.
Over You, Ferrys Slave to Love ,Angel Eyes, On the radio and then on to one of their more Art Rocky ones in Both ends Burning.
What really makes this group great rather than good is definitely the sax player.
I didnt really realise how many of RMs songs contained sax but this guy was superb. Armed with about 4 saxes including a monster Soprano sax this guy was awesome. My friend who didnt know much Roxy stuff said it was worth the entrance money just to see his performance.
We then had Ferrys Smoke gets in your Eyes, Dance away, Virginia Plain,Love is the Drug,Lets stick Together, Avalon, and finishing with John Lennons Jealous Guy which included another fantastic sax solo from the man of the evening.
Roxy Music were a very sophisticated band with cool songs and this group dont disappoint.
So next time theyre at Kyps if you love Sax dont miss him even if youre not too keen on Roxy Musics stuff!
